History of Dental Insurance
When dental insurance plans first began in 1970, they had allowed $1000 per year in benefits. The majority of plans today still only allow for $1000 per year in benefits. Had the insurance companies increased their benefits on a year-by-year basis reflecting increases for inflation, the typical $1000 per year benefit would now be worth roughly $5111.69 per year. Although your benefits have not kept pace with inflation, your premiums have certainly gone up.
Dental Insurance
Our office staff is always available to help you with insurance claims and paperwork. We'll work with your insurance provider to make sure that your coverage meets your needs and your budget. Please let us know if you have any questions about your insurance coverage, and let us know how we can help to make your entire dental experience a pleasant one.
Concerning dental insurance, our office feels that it is best to describe it as a dental co-payment policy and we are pleased that you have such a policy to help you towards improved dental care. However, with a dental co-payment policy your insurance company will pay some, but not all, of your treatment. We will do everything that we can to help maximize your benefits on a yearly basis. Our obligation is to you. We will recommend to you the dental care that is tailored to your particular needs, regardless of what the insurance company may be willing to provide. We do not let them dictate your dental care.
We will do our best to make sure you receive the maximum benefits from your employer's program, however, most plans only cover minimum, average, care. Insurance companies will sometimes state that the fee charged by the dentist was over the "UCR" of the policy (the usual, customary and reasonable fee). This does not mean our fee was excessive; it simply means that the contract your employer arranged with the insurance company allowed for minimal payment. Excellence in care rarely comes under the dictates of "average" or "usual". We will do everything that we can to live up to the standards you expect and deserve from us as professionals. Our fees reflect the quality of service and the care with which it is delivered.
